The origin of the Parish date from around the turn of the century when a company called The ALBERS Group established sisal estates in the Tanga region of what was then the German territory of Tanganyika. The Albers Group also purchased the Vipingo Estate in Kenya in 1939.
Sisal farming involves a lot of manual work. Back then ( in the 1940s ), Vipingo estate was all forested with deep rooted indeginous trees, bushes and rocks that required a lot of hard work to clear. The colonial government allowed the managent of the Albers group to ship in a goodnumber of the natives from Tanganyika who were hardy, tolerant and with both experience in Sisal farming and bush clearing . These natives were mostly the Makonde. There were also the Ngoni, Kuria and a few Luos from the Nyanza region in Kenya. The Makonde were the majority and were all followers of the Roman Catholic church.
